Christian Colson, Senior Pastor
Christian Colson has been the pastor at Eastside since September of 2016. He is married to Gentry Colson, and they have five children, Cheyenne, Evan, Austin, CT, and Elliot. Christian holds a Master of Divinity degree in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Gentry also holds a degree from SBTS in Biblical Counseling. Before coming to Eastside, Christian was a youth pastor for six years.
Christian is very passionate about developing disciples who can then develop other disciples. Christian also desires to teach the Bible in such a way that makes the stories and teachings come alive. Many of us have read the Bible so many times that we miss out on how exciting it can be. Christian wants to reawaken people to its awe and wonder.
Christian and Gentry are also passionate about the foster system. Having been foster parents themselves, they see the need for foster parents and other caregivers who will take the time to minister to the children, the parents, and the case workers. They always remind people that it was never God’s intention for the government to take care of kids. Kids are supposed to be with their parents. But sin has broken this, and only through Christ can all those involved in the system find hope and healing.
If you would like to know more about how you can get involved in ministering to those in the foster system, check out Called to Care on Facebook.
Jewell Ross, Preschool Director
Jewell Ross and her husband Craig have been married for 36 years. They have a son, Craig Steven, who lives in Chicago, IL and a daughter, Jennifer, who lives in Charlotte, NC. They are the proud grandparents of Mary Helen, Flynn, Miley and Laney. Since their children and grandchildren live so far away, Ms. Jewell really enjoys interacting with the children at Eastside Baptist Preschool. They are all her “adopted” grandchildren (just ask the pastor’s kids!).
Jewell Ross received her BS degree in Family & Consumer Sciences Education. She later completed her master’s degree in Educational Leadership. In 2016, Ms. Jewell also received her Education Specialist degree. Her research for the Specialist’s degree focused on the use of technology on the development of our children, especially children under the age of two.
Ms. Jewell has taught middle and high school Family & Consumer Sciences for 33 years, most recently at George Washington Carver Freshman Campus, since 2015. She has also taught courses in Parenting, Child Development, Fashion Design, and Interior Design. She has also served as the principal at Snellville Christian Academy which included 2-year-old preschool through high school.
Ms. Jewell has attended church all her life. At the age of 15, she accepted Jesus as her personal savior. Her faith in God has helped through all those years of public education as well as providing strength through difficult times in her life. Now, she looks forward to sharing Jesus to our children daily without having to worry about the guidelines and restrictions of public education.
